Dr.Cathy Schmedding-Harrison
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Cathy Schmedding-Harrison. I am a 2006 graduate of Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas where I graduated magna cum laude. My undergraduate education was completed at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas where I received a degree in kinesiology with a focus in athletic training. I participated in the sports medicine program working with several athletic teams such as football, basketball, track and baseball to name a few and in May of 2003, I was licensed by the state of Texas. In 2004, I further expanded my education and was nationally licensed as an athletic trainer as well. I have a great deal of experience with sports injuries, rehabilitation, exercise physiology and nutrition.
It was my love of sports and competitive nature that brought me ito the chiropractic profession. After an injury to my back that left one leg numb while playing high school basketball, I was treated by a chiropractor at the recommendation of my orthopedic surgeon. I went into the chiropractor's office, not knowing what to expect, with very little feeling in my leg and left feeling tremendously better with increased sensation to my leg. It was amazing to me to see how with chiropractic treatment including adjustments and therapy that my body began to heal itself. The chiropractor explained to me that with proper alignment of the spine and treatment that I could improve even when other conservative treatment methods had failed. From that point on I wanted to learn more and this began to peak my interest in helping others achieve with chiropractic care what I had witnessed with my own treatment.
My practice style is very similar to that of Dr. Jones in that I believe that education and compassion is the cornerstone of patient care. With today's fast-paced highly stressful environment, I recognize the increased wear on the body causes joint and muscle pain. This can be helped with chiropractic care to decrease the impact of repetitive stress on the body. Utilizing multiple techniques such as Diversified, Thompson and Activator, I can realign the spine and decrease joint stress. Adjustments in conjunction with passive modalities including ice/heat, electrical stimulation and deep tissue massage will help in reducing muscle aches and tension. However with my background in treating athletic injuries, I also focus in transitioning the patient into an active rehabilitation protocol to re-condition/re-strengthen the body as tolerated. Our focus is not long-term treatment but rather a quick transition to rehabilitation with emphasis on educating the patient on how to progress into a home/gym exercise program. This would help decrease the need for long term care and provide a smooth transition into maintenance care for long term support.
Dr. Schmedding - Harrison resides in Katy, Texas with her husband and two children, Cameryn and Kaleb. They enjoy any outdoor activities, exercise, sports and spending time with friends and family. She enjoys educating her patients and the community on the healthful benefits of chiropractic care and the numerous other aspects of maintaining a healthy, energetic and active lifestyle.
Dr. Jones is pleased to have Dr. Cathy as part of the Omni Healthcare chiropractic team.
